UPS Lost My Quilts

UPDATE: my quilts have found! Thank you all for your prayers and kind words!

I’m completely devastated! After my One Block Wonder Trunk Show for Quilting by the Lake in Lake Havasu, Arizona I shipped my quilts home by UPS only to have them disappear at the Chicago Area Consolidation Hub (CACH) Facility in Hodgkins, Illinois. I have no idea how long their investigation will take. These Quilts are irreplaceable. I can not just remake them. I am writing this because I feel helpless and frustrated!

    It would be nice if you would add a statement at the top of this post that they were found. This has gotten a life of it’s own. CACH handles 1.5 MILLION packages a day and the mistake was discovered quickly and they’ll get back to you. Just a suggestion.

    (I know you made a new post, but this one is the one being copied over and over and over again!

      UPS just lost my quilt that was entered in Paducah. It has been two weeks! ☹️ They delivered an empty tube to my ups location. I hope that I get lucky like you. I am SO glad you got your quilts back!

        Do you want them back or not? Let me know this AM or I’ll tell loss prevention to forget it. I can’t believe I have to beg you to let me help you. Now I’m wondering if you are trying to pull something. Why would you not want your quilts back? This is insane!

        Quillltr, in all fairness to the blogger, you have not identified yourself or who you work for, or how you are involved. You just demanded info. You are a stranger to her and in this day and age we have to be very careful of who we give info to. Threatening will not help. Please give her more info so she can trust who you are!

        I actually have already given my background on here previously. 42 years at UPS and have tracked down many packages at UPS, including Pepper Cory’s last year. I only got involved because several people messaged me asking for my help. I got the ball rolling with my contacts in loss prevention and have located the quilts. Now no one seems to want them. This is very time sensitive. Overgoods are put on a trailer and shipped out to auction within 48 hrs, and I’ve previously explained. I’ve done all I can, since i have no idea where to send them, or who they really belong to. Without a tracking number, they can’t be claimed.

        Wonderful. I’ve posted packaging and shipping tips for quilts on several quilt pages on Facebook. They guarantee your quilts will not get damaged or misplaced. I suggest everyone follow them. This is something that is totally preventable if you take proper care.

    Ups lost husbands shipment. Once a claim was filed for the $15,000 That he insured the shipment for they miraculously found the crate. Give it time. All hope is not lost.

      They have been found. In Georgia. I suspect the package was put on the wrong pallet. Packages all going to the same distribution center are shipped together. Obviously someone misread the scan and put it in the wrong pile.

      And before anyone says “inexcusable”…..they handle nearly 16 MILLION packages A DAY. The Chicago CACH handles 1.5 million alone. I think it’s amazing more packages aren’t misdirected. They ARE human.

        Actually it is the UPS store in Lake Havasu City. They insisted on putting them in one box that could not handle the weight of 67.5 pounds. The box was severely damaged. They are in Georgia being packed correctly .

    I am so sorry this happened. I can tell you they lost my wedding dress. I shipped it from IL to FL and it got lost at a hub in FL. It took a week and they found it and got it delivered but I called daily. Fingers crossed they find them.

    I would let “Quilltr” Lisa help you. She’s being VERY nice by trying to help you. That’s a UPSer that really cares. To have someone that can get in contact with the people that deal with overgoods & security is really the ONLY person that can truly help you! And say thank you because she’s going above and beyond. Like she said, don’t wait! I’ve been with UPS for 22 years, I know!

        I was at the trunk show in Lake Havasu and was amazed at your quilt artistry. I can only imagine the depths of loss you must feel. I am hoping and praying that UPS does its job and gets those quilts back to you in pristine condition! Such unique works of art are sure to turn up.

    I am so sorry! I shipped one to my brother and the clerk entered the wrong address. They have a system that sometimes enters same house number but wrong street! They never found it. Please check with that UPS store and report it to the police too. A incident report would be created by the police system and if this happens to someone else they could look at past reports for repeat theft or offenders. Not everyone is honest. Please keep us posted.

      Call corporate UPS right away. If your local media has a consumer help line, call them. Keep the pressure on them. Do not let them stop looking for them.

    I hope they find them. In the future, maybe send multiples in separate boxes to decrease the risk of loss. Expensive, but more likely they won’t all go missing.

      When I sent them to Arizona they were in multiple boxes. The employee at the UPS store in Lake Havasu insisted on sending them in one box!!! And they charged me $200 more to return to NY than to send them to AZ!!!

        It sounds like they disappeared at that location. File a police report. I had to do that for an iPhone. It showed up in one day.

        You can pack these in boxes & check as checked bags on the airline – I do that whenever I travel with items like this – it ends up costing less in the long run

        I don’t know you either, but I was willing to help. I already had my contact in security working on it, but she can’t go farther without the tracking number. I found Pepper Cory’s quilts for her last year.

        I AM with UPS. 42 years now. I have lots of contacts and have tracked down many missing parcels. I spent 2 days last year, on vacation, tracking down a famous someone’s lost quilts, and didn’t even get a thank you. Whatever you do, do it quick. You have 48 hrs max before overgoods are shipped out.

        Hi Ann, I tracked my quilts to see where they disappeared, which was the Chicago UPS Hub. My sister looked up phone number for that hub’s customer service and just kept hounding them until she found someone to help. That per “Judy” is a wonderful person who would not give up. She found them at UPS Headquarters in Atlanta. I was just lucky!

    In my last post, I erroneously called you Deb, but meant Jackie …. must have been channeling her, but if you are teaching with these quilts, perhaps you’ll have some students who can lend you a quilt for each technique and ruler used for your next teaching gigs until these lost quilts come home. I’m sure since the word is out, several with come forward to help.

    This is so terrible to read about. Recently a pkg of mine was lost and had ended up in Europe.. some country coding error for dispatching.
    In this day & age something like this should never happen .. everything is electronically recorded and tracked and can be traced to last known location and time.
    I wonder GPS tracking devices couldn’t be put into a quilt..would help when you read about quilts being stolen.

    I’m sorry about your quilts. I left.my C-pap machine on a plane in Atlanta, it ended up in a lost and found at Delta. I could only email them and ask them to check on it. It took months and months, they finally found and sent it to me. Give them all the details you can about your luggage that,held the quilts. Also, ask people to spread the word on social media, hopefully someone will contact you and you will get them back. They are beautiful quilts. This happened to someone I took a class from years ago.

    Absolutely devastating!!! When you speak with UPS next time, ask them to check the GPS location where the quilts were last located (delivered?). That might help with tracing your shipment. also, ask them to escalate your claim. I hope this information helps. Perhaps, you have already tried these suggestions. I hope that you get them back.

    Jackie,I feel so terrible for you. I know that those quilts were made over years of time, not just weeks or months. I know it won’t bring them back any sooner, but I really hope you had a value and insurance on them when they shipped. I just borrowed a quilt from S180D for a retreat and realized how important it is to keep track of the values of the work we do.I would be very upset and frustrated also. I would be hounding them to look for my quilts and get them back to me “NOW”.  Tell them, they’d better start looking harder and give you daily updates on all the places they actually searched with documentation of said searches.  Not just “lip” service, saying they’re looking. Carolyn

        You might want to notify your insurance agent about the loss, Or whoever is carrying the insurance on the quilts. Once an adjuster is assigned they tend to get very serious about the lost package. Because of course they don’t like to pay out on a claim. Hope this helps.
