Another Great Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Class

Yesterday at Sew EZ in Portsmouth we had another great class on how to make a Lemoyne star – with out “Y” seams!!! I love this method. It was developed by Deb Tucker www.studio180design.net . It is so much fun. Thanks to Mary & Mary, Nancy & Sandy. It was a good class.

Inside the Twister Locked and Loaded

I’m still trying to catch up from teaching all last weekend, but in between embroidering quilt labels, etc. I loaded Inside the Twister on the quilt frame. So I would quilt a row, then run to the embroidery room and check on the embroidery machine. Status: Inside the twister is quilted, waiting for binding, 3 quilt labels are done and half way through a job for my friend Jennifer.

Tomorrow I’m off to teach the Lemoyne star class at Sew E-Z in Portsmouth.

Oak Ridge Stars Class

It was Deb Tucker Day in my class room this weekend. Today was another great class with great students. I worked their butts off, but they were up for the challenge. This is no quilt for the faint of heart. It’s not that it is hard, but there is a lot of cutting. I love Deb Tucker patterns because she is so thorough and detailed always reminding us which direct to press our seams. It was a great weekend of classes at the Hampton convention Center, sponsored by Bella Fabrics in Carollton, VA.

Thank you to Sharon, Arlene, Trishia, Robin, Suzanne and Leanne. I enjoyed you all very much.

Lemoyne Star Class in Hampton

I just got home from teaching a Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star class in Hampton, VA. I have to say the students: Arlene, Susan, Suzanne, Leanne, Mavis, & Lisa – you guys are rock stars. We had a great class. They learned something new and had fun doing it. If you haven’t tried Deb Tucker’s Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler, you don’t know what you are missing.

Going back tomorrow to teach the Oak Ridge Stars Pattern.

The Spiderweb Top is Done (but not quilted yet)

My Halloween Spiderweb Quilt top is together, but it is not quilted yet. Life keeps getting in the way of my quilting. It measures 88″ X 104″. I ordered some “Nevermore” by Michael Miller as a tribute to Edgar Allen Poe for the back. It required a special backing. This is my 5th spiderweb quilt. I will be teaching this in November at What’s Your Stitch N Stuff in Virginia Beach.

Adding Spiderwebs to the Spiderweb

I arranged the spiderweb blocks on the design wall today, and sewed the rows together. I still need to add the inner and outer borders. I am machine embroidering spiderwebs between the blocks. I plan to embroider more Halloween motifs in the outer border also.

September Surprise Quilt Retreat

I was at a quilt retreat this weekend with a group from the Peninsula Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Hampton, VA. We had a blast. We were at the 4H Center in Wakefield Virginia. A very nice facility, great rooms, great food, great staff.

I accomplished a lot. I completed about 115 hexagon blocks for a quilt I’m calling “Pussy Footing Around”. Also worked on the Spiderweb quilt, piecing 20 15 inch blocks. My OBW Aurora Borealis got borders, and I started working on anew quilt called Galaxy by Deb Tucker.

There was a lot of taxidermy there, note my friend Lisa with the polar bear.

I drank the Kool-Aid and had to get the folding wagon. These wagons are great, they fold up for easy storage and can hold up to 150 pounds. If you go to quilts shows, retreats or quilt classes these wagons are great for reducing the number of trips to your car. Of course we had to pimp out our individual wagons courtesy of If These Threads Could Talk!

It is good to be home, I missed my dogs (and my husband).

Make Your Own Gift Bags for Quilts

I am re-posting this because I forgot tp PDF the document before I posted it. When I give a quilt as a gift, I make my own gift bag. The lesson below makes a bag approximately 18″ x 18″ with a 4 ” gusset. You can adjust the size you want buy cutting your fabric larger or smaller, just remember to cut the lining and the outer fabric the same size. I love including a tote or making custom embroidered totes as the gift itself.

Inside the Twister with Borders

Inside the Twister now has borders made from the original fabric that the block are made from. It measures 77″ by 84″. Next it gets quilted, but not until next week. This weekend I am at a quilt retreat. I’ll be hanging with my peeps, should be a blast!

Inside the Twister – Rows Sewn Together

I made progress and got the rows for Inside the Twister sewn together. So, now I have 2 One Block Wonders waiting for borders and one more to design. I can’t belive I’m working on 4 quilts at once, not to mention the 19 quilt labels I need to get done also.
