Creepin It Real Again!

I am teaching at The Quilt Crossing in Boise Idaho in June. The owner of the shop is a fan of my work. She commissioned a One Block Wonder from me last year. Laura really loves Halloween and made an offer on QT Fabric‘s “Creepin it Real”.

I accepted her offer. She had 7 more “Creepin It Real” panels. These panels would enable me to make it again.

It is fun to see the differences. With the first “Creepin It Real” I cut my strips 3.75″ for 6″ finished hexies. With “Creepin It Real 2″, I cut my strips 3.25″ for 5” finished hexies. That gave me 31 more hexies than I had with the first one. The first “Creepin It Real” measures 90″ x 70″. The second “Creepin it Real” measures 74″ x 74″. Even though I had extra hexies, I did not use them all.

My new favorite ruler for cutting out my hexies is Deb Tucker’s First Choice Rulers.

TIP: I tried something different this time. Once I attached the top section, I attached one row from the left section. It was much less bulky determining where the bottom section should be attached. Then I added one row from the right side. Once the remaining left & right sections were stitched together, it would be easy to attach them to the center section.

I’m just so happy that I still have a “Creepin it Real” in my collection. I’m Looking forward to meeting Laura in June.

Call of the Sea – OBW #97

My favorite panels to make OBW’s with are by Josephine Wall.

Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea panel measured 35″ x 43″. I cut 3.25″ strips which yielded 5″ finished hexies.

I created a barrier reef for my mermaid using Studio 180 Design’s Star 60 tool, along with Quad 60, Framed 60, Capped 60, Checkerboard 60 & Hollow Cube 60 (not yet released) Technique sheets. My Island Batik stash is like having the BIG box of crayons. They are my go-to batiks to add color and interest to my OBW’s and all my quilts.

Call of the sea measures 98″ x 72″.

Chrysanthemum Quilt

For the last year and half I been experimenting with Deb Tucker’s Star 60 Tool and adding stars and cubes to One Block Wonders (OBW).

Chrysanthemum Block

This block was created by the Studio 180 Design Brain Trust. I call it the Chrysanthemum. I put it in my OBW Star Chamber.

Star Chamber

I wanted to see what the Chrysanthemum block looked like as a quilt.

Chrysanthemum Quilt, measures 46″ x 60″

Holy guacamole, someone make me a margarita! This quilt just makes me smile and think of a fiesta.

I am teaching Zoom classes on OBW’s and the Star 60 tool, along with the 5 technique sheets for the Star 60 tool. I have added the fabric requirements for this quilt to class the supply list so you can decide whether to make a block for your OBW or a Chrysanthemum quilt.

Moving Forward – OBW #94

I love Josephine Wall’s panels. I call this one “Moving Forward”. It measures 74″ x 98″. The Framed 60 Stars, Log Cabin Stars and Cubes were made using the Star 60 Tool. (Technique sheets for the Log Cabin Stars and Cubes are coming soon.)

Moving Forward

She Who Sews – OBW #93

I fell in love with this panel by Riley Blake.

Measures 24″ x 44″

I made my “She Who Sews” OBW using Studio 180 Design’s Star 60 tool to cut the triangles and make the cubes and stars.

She Who Sews, measures 66″ x 69″

Check out my upcoming classes for using the Star 60 tool on this site under the tab “OBW & Star 60 Zoom Classes”
